The GOAT
Louis Rossmann
Louis Rossmann’s YouTube channel mainly focuses on electronics repair, consumer rights (especially the right to repair), and commentary about shady business practices in the tech industry. He started years ago fixing MacBooks and other electronics, educates viewers about technical troubleshooting. These days he is the justice warrior the tech industry desperately needs. I like his ethics and I like how he is not willing to sell his soul to the highest bidder.
There are many very relevant videos from Louis, but the one that made me take action and start this endeavor was this one:
The master homelaber
TechnoTim
Techno Tim is a popular YouTube channel focused on helping people do awesome things with technology, especially around home lab setups and self-hosting solutions. I blame this channel for getting me into hating my life for 3 months trying to virtualize my router with Proxmox. His channel is well-regarded for balancing mid-level technical detail with approachable explanations that make advanced topics accessible for home lab enthusiasts.
I have put on my backlog the built of my very first Kubernetes cluster. Hopefully one day I will find the time and energy to build my own high availability cluster.
One of my favourite videos from him is related to Pi-Hole:
The undeniable router professional
Lawrence Systems
Tom Lawrence brings a professional IT services background to homelab content. As the co-host of The Homelab Show podcast, he provides insights you won't get from hobbyist channels.
His videos on self-hosted private clouds covers enterprise-grade solutions that you can run at home. Tom's content bridges the gap between hobby projects and professional infrastructure. For many years Tom has been an advocate for pfsense, but in the resent year I am happy to see more recommendations and tutorials for Unifi products. This is one of my go-to channels when it comes to networking.
UNRAID Unleashed
IBRACORP
IBRACORP recently returned after a break, and the homelab community (including myself) couldn't be happier. His focus on UnRAID, security, and practical self-hosting tutorials fills a real need. The Docs Hub (IBRADOCS) hosts detailed guides with categories like Media Servers, Networking, Security (Authentik, CrowdSec, PWM), Reverse Proxies (SWAG, Traefik), Virtualization (Proxmox, Unraid), and more.
For me, the go-to video was always the series on setting up the ultimate media server using Arr Apps and Plex. I am happy to see that now he released a video on Jellyfin. Cannot wait to try it in my own homelab.
That’s it for this week.
Part 2 will follow shortly.
